YouTube is adopting a video feature that has already been duplicated across Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and others. Creators who have more than 10,000 subscribers will be able to post Reels, short clips that can be stitched together to make a longer video. Reels fall under the banner of YouTube’s Community project, where creators can already post GIFs, photos, and other content to provide sneak peeks of forthcoming videos. YouTube says creators’ Community content will be more discoverable, and should automatically appear at the top of the most engaged viewers’ home feed. Fans can elect to receive notifications when creator’s have new content in their Reel. Reels will support links and stickers, and will not expire. This feature is being tested with a small number of creators before YouTube rolls it out to a larger group. Today’s changes are meant to help video makers engage more with their fans via YouTube.
