President Donald Trump has nominated Brendan Carr to fill the fifth and final Commissioner role at the FCC. Brendan Carr, a Republican, joins Commissioner Michael O’Reilly and Chairman Ajit Pai, giving Republicans a 3-2 majority over Democrat Commissioners Mignon Clyburn and Jessica Rosenworcel. The Commission had a Democrat majority under President Obama and a Republican majority under President Bush. “I congratulate Brendan Carr on the President’s announcement that he will be nominated to serve as an FCC Commissioner,” said Chairman Pai in a statement. “Brendan’s expertise on wireless policy and public safety will be a tremendous asset to the Commission. I look forward to working with him in his new role and wish him all the best during the confirmation process.” Trump reinstated Rosenworcel to her seat on the Commission earlier this month.
