Facebook has more changes in store for the News Feed in an effort to promote meaningful interactions between people. In the simplest terms, Facebook said its algorithms will prioritize posts from friends and family over public content. That means people should see more stuff from their Facebook contacts. Facebook also hopes to predict which posts will spark conversations between friends and will place those higher in the News Feed. As a result, Facebook says people will likely see fewer posts from Pages they follow, including, for example, brands, celebrities, and media companies. Page content will not be eliminated from the News Feed, but less of it will appear and/or be prioritized. Facebook noted that video, particularly live video, often generates the most conversation between users. It’s possible that video may become even more prominent in users’ News Feeds. These changes are being put into effect over the next few months.
