AT&T today announced the Netgear Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot Router, what it calls the first 5G evolution mobile hotspot. The device supports AT&T’s test 5G networks in select markets, such as Austin, Texas, and AT&T’s existing LTE 4G network everywhere else. In the 5G test markets, wireless data speeds are capable of reaching twice the download rates of standard LTE. The Nighthawk can connect up to 20 devices to the network via 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz WiFi. The hotspot features a 5,040mAh battery that provides up to 24 hours of LTE surfing. It can also charge mobile devices thanks to a USB-A out port. Other features include password protection, content filtering, scheduling, parental controls, SIM security, USB-C, ethernet, and an LCD display for gleaning key data points. The Netgear Nighthawk Mobile Hotspot Router goes on sale October 27. AT&T is offering it for $50 when purchased with a two-year agreement.
